You're Invited....

YOU'VE BEEN INVITED TO A FUNDRAISER AT...

Brighton High School

2220 East Bengal Boulevard

Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121

Brighton High School is having a fundraising/charity boutique this Friday November 5th at 4:00 to 9:00 pm and Saturday November 6th at 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

This fundraiser at Brighton High School has chosen the Paul Cardall Foundation. This fundraiser helps children that are born with congenital birth defects and heart deficiency. The donations will go to research and will also help local families who struggle with hospital bills. Every 15 minutes a child is born with one of these problems. We would like to join Brighton High School in their efforts to raise money to help save childrens lives so that they have a chance to enjoy life.

Here is a glimpse at just a few of our beautiful infinity scarves that will be featured at this important fundraiser. Christmas is just around the corner....

We look forward to seeing you there!

i love this halloween wreath!
it was so fun to make.

i looked all over to find a styrafoam wreath the right size, but was unsuccessful, so.....
(i laugh at this...)
i used a pine needle wreath (the kind for Christmas), and just wrapped it in duct tape to make it a solid circle.
i feel so resourceful!

and then just using strips of fabric i wrapped my Christmas/Halloween/duct taped wreath around and around until you couldn't see any silver :)
i made a few rosettes and added some spiders crawling all over.
i was planning on putting a little sign saying BOO! or something, but didn't get to that point. there is always next year if i want to add to it!

but i was very happy with the end results!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

(can't wait to share the girls' costumes with you all!)

ON A SIDE NOTE...

my friend and i have started a business.
it's called:
OOLAHLAH DESIGNS
(cute, right?)
we make stylish infinity scarves.
the are the perfect accessory to make any outfit look FABULOUS without the effort!

they are awesome.
even if you're wearing a plain t-shirt, you put one of these scarves on and it changes the entire look of that simple tee!

we have several boutiques coming up in the month of November!!!!!

SO EXCITED!
we are just about to put everything up on the web to sell in a few days or so!!!!
these make the perfect gift. nothing better than a handmade, unique one of a kind present for loved ones. (wouldn't it be nice to have all your Christmas shopping done by the first of November???)
but check out our blog for now (and if you wanted to leave a little comment, it would make us feel so loved. i'm just sayin')
we will make sure to tell the whole world when everything is up and running!

WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

until then, have a happy and safe halloween!

i spy with my little eye....

lets play a game...
look at the picture...
who can find the "faux cami"?

THERE IT IS!
this faux cami has solved two of my biggest problems:
1-wearing multiple layers to cover everything ;)
2-my OUT OF CONTROL sweat issues because of those multiple layers!

i came across this tutorial to make a "faux cami"
{but as my husband likes to call it...the "FIRT" fake+shirt= FIRT}
and i swear to you, i saw the heavens open and angels singing!

it took about 10 minutes to make, and cost me nothing since i used an old t-shirt of mine AND i just used the hem of the shirt for the hem of the "firt", so there was hardly any sewing!
i used velcro instead of snaps since i didn't have the snap kit, but i really like the way the velcro works out. i'm able to adjust how tight or loose, or how high or low the "firt" is.
and as you can tell, i opted to not do the pin tucks, as seen in the tutorial, but i am still thrilled with the way it turned out!

i was so excited about this and had to share it with all of my friends and sisters in laws that have the same issues.
although, it might have looked a little odd to look over at church and see a bunch of women looking in my shirt to see exactly how it worked! :)

what a relief it is to not have to wear multiple layers anymore!
thank you firt.

sew my life away

i have been sewing a lot.
{what's new?}
anyway, i figured i'd take pictures keep record of everything i'm doing.
i've just been sewing since last summer and it amazes me of all i have learned and all that i need to learn!

{and for every picture i apologize, they are either blurry or too bright, but you get the idea}

this is a cute dress called the popover sundress by oliver+s.
it's a free, easy and wonderful pattern.
i made both of these dresses from the same pattern, just different fabrics.

can you tell we like pink around here?

i made it in seersucker cotton with a little eyelet lace {above} which turned out so cute.

and this is a "recycled" or re-purposed dress.
it was made out of t-shirts i had.
it took me a total of 25 minutes to make, especially since i just used the hem of the t-shirt for the hem of the dress, and i didn't have to finish any edges!
and since i didn't need to finish any edges, i left the straps a little thicker than the one i made of cotton, and i like it better that way.
it covers m's shoulders a little more and keeps the sun off them.
it is probably the most comfortable dress and wish i had made it in my size!

another thing that i love about these dresses is they can either be dresses for m or shirts for a.
is that brilliant or what??

a is now taking tap and ballet, and she needed a bag to carry her shoes to and from class.
as soon as i saw this on make it and love it, it gave me the best idea!

how cute is that??!!??
i just made and used a freezer paper stencil, sewed tulle and some fabric for a tutu and added beads for a necklace.

i did not make the bag itself, but it was on sale for $2 and i don't think i could have made it any cheaper!
i think i will still put a's name on there, but that will happen another day!

last project to share...

once again, make it and love it has the best idea for 4th of july t-shirts!
before you look at the shirt i made, keep in mind that daughter #1 has already worn this shirt and so it's dirty and crusty {which makes the stripes stick together}, but i just wanted to put it on the blog anyway.
once again, just used t-shirts {with stains} that the girls have, and shirts from my husband's old stash, and buttons from my collection.

so cheap!
i love cheap!

thanks for reading.
but if you would excuse me, i need to go sew something.

stay tuned for my other
projects!

no peeking amy!

i hope my sister in law, amy isn't reading this right now because i just HAD to share this purse that i made for her birthday!
i absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this fabric.
i bought a few yards, so you just might see me wearing a skirt out of this! (don't you think it would make a darling skirt? and i'm sure you care! :)
moving on....

couple more views...

i enjoy making this pattern, but i always need a huge burlap and tulle flower on the front.

i'm still debating whether or not to give it to her... haha!
just hope she loves it as much as i do!

shhh...

when i saw this tutorial on a felt mr. potato head, i had to make it.
and what perfect timing, my sweet nephew is turning one in less than a week (still shocking to me!)
i think he will just love it.
and they are great for church meetings since they are so quiet.

there is a nifty little pocket on mr. potato head's back side to store all of the other pieces.
and i could have gone on all day just making more accessories for this fun doll, but since my girls were hungry i think i better feed them.
whatever.
:)

sweet mrs. potato head

and mr. and mrs. potato head's son

such a fun activity to make and to play with.
but i loved it even more since it is made out of felt and there is no sewing "inside out" and then flipping it "right side out".
talk about a time saver!

now i just need to make one for my girls!
i love excuses to make things...

whatcha' doin?

so, a few months and a million projects later....

thought i'd share what i've been up to...

two dolls for my girls.
thanks to black apple dolls for the free pattern and tutorial.
i added pigtails to the red head to make it more like my red head.
these were so fun and easy to make and i look for every chance to make one.

cute little phoebe bag.
once again, free pattern and tutorial.
thank you, rebeka lambert.

first of all, i would like to apologize for the next two pictures.
my camera is busted and so i desperately used my daughter's fisher price digital camera to capture these last few projects.
the picture quality isn't great, but it is indestructible.

love this fabric key chain from the idea room.
and from the picture it is obvious that it is a gift for a good friend/hair stylist along with these adorable fabric flower earrings from this tutorial, on happy together.

last but not least, the hanging dish towel.
i've always had the crocheted top towels from grandma, but this just takes a potholder, towel and button and a sewing machine. i made five of them in less than 20 minutes and i think i will make more to give them away in a gift set. great neighbor gifts.
that's just a sampling of what i've been up to.
i gotta get better at posting and get a better camera!
Christmas is coming up....just one more thing on the "list".

lets refashion!

so my little one is growing out of her clothes so fast, and I could just throw her old clothes away...but oh no...not me! i'm on a big "refashioning" kick. i've been so obsessed with sewing (thanks to this wonderful lady that i love) that now i look at other items of clothing if they have holes, stains or rips and decide what i could make them in to...

like this outfit.
i took her old jeans, cut the legs off, added fabric and it becomes a super cute skirt. (i promise it's straight. it's just hard to get a serious picture with this stinker.) but i think i love this skirt so much because my mom made me one just like this when I was little.

the shirt had stains up toward the top, but that's easily taken care of... i just made some "yo yos" with buttons, sewed it to the shirt, and you don't even know the stains are there!
it's so fun!
and I'm such a nerd.
i know.

anyway, just a side note...this little turkey and I were sick with the vomits last night. ugh. i hate being sick, but it's sad to see your little ones so violently sick.
but not even 24 hours later this is what she looks like. look at that face....you wouldn't even know she was sick...well, maybe that hair would give you some kind of a clue! geesh, you think someone could comb that!
but we are all doing much better...just waiting for daddy to get it...he doesn't think he'll be bit by the bug, but it's a strong one, so don't be too sure sweetie! ;)
i'll save you some gatorade, babe!

hello?? brilliant!!

Today I made this super easy and super cute Travel Pillow for Alex that I found on one of most favorite blogs amazing mae.
We will be going on a little road trip this weekend for the 4th, and so I thought this would be so helpful. In the pocket my little sweetie can keep her coloring books, animals and treats right there with her, and it even has a handle to help her carry it.
like i said, brilliant!

well....

...i gave it my best shot.
recently I have really gotten into sewing. and i thought for Fathers Day i would make my father something from the heart, and he always asks for ties so i thought, why not make him a tie? good idea, right?
wrong.

usually this is the point in my post that i apologize for the horrible photo and lighting and all that, but in this case i think the lighting actually helped the tie look a little better. ha.

and if you're asking "aren't ties supposed to be a straight piece of fabric?"
the answer is yes. yes they are.
but i thought just because it didn't work out how i had pictured it didn't mean i couldn't still give it to my dad. and just because the interfacing that i had bought and sewed into the tie made it stiff as a board and impossible to tie didn't mean i couldn't give it to dad.
right?

so that's what i did.
happy father's day, dad.

he was such a good sport. he actually got the thing to tie.
(i'm not a tie expert, but aren't ties supposed to go to the belt buckle? i'm just sayin'.)
of course after all the laughter and jokes, we gave him a "real" (store bought) tie.
it's the thought that counts, you know.

okay, enough laughing at me.
i would like to present a "redemption" project.
here is my adorable baby right after she woke up from her nap- love the hair.
she is sporting a fun little outfit i put together the other day to make me feel better after my little tie disaster.

the shirt is an old white shirt that was covered in stains, so i just appliqued a cute flower to cover that up. then stitched around the edges to keep it from fraying too much or falling off. the shorts are made from the same fabric.

the sides of the shirt were my favorite. i was able to scrunch the sides up with ribbon. so cute. so easy.

i also took a pair of my favorite pajama pants (with major holes) to make some mini pjs for a-rod.

ah! i just can't wait for my new and improved sewing machine.
it's amazing what you can get from your husband when he wants college football season tickets!

i heart smocking

i feel like i need to post a disclaimer...
i am not an expert seamstress, nor will i ever be, but i do really enjoy sewing.
recently i learned how to "smock" (thanks to heather ross) and i admit i'm a bit obsessed.
it only took me a half a day to finish this dress (less if the girls weren't so needy:). this is so extremely simple and fun to make.
in fact, i'm starting one right now for me so that i can use it as a cover-up at the beach this weekend!

PLEASE do not pay attention to how incredibly crooked the seams are- sometimes straight lines are the hardest for me to sew. please don't judge me. lol.
